Prof. Hans-Joachim Haas from the University of Music Duesseldorf leading a team, consisting of the students Jindrich Massner, Christian Frentzen and Benedikt Aufterbeck of the „Institute for Music and Media“, joined composer Christian Halten, to work out a concept for recording and sampling a church organ and then recreating a virtual copy via software-sampling technology. The questions that arise with this project are: How close can one get to the sound of the real organ with a virtual clone? Can musicians and non-musicians tell the difference when listening to a pre-recorded piece of music, one played on the real organ and the other one played on the virtual clone?

On this site we present our current work in progress. You will find a detailed documentary on our sampling project, including some photos and audio examples.

Have fun!
